Richard is the author of one of my all time favorite urban fantasy series Sandman Slim. That series is a main focus throughout our conversation. We dig into how he comes up with a concept like a magic wielding hitman escaping from Hell. We talk about the challenges of writing a long series, dealing with rejection as a writer, his creative process, favorite landmarks in LA, Tattoos, Lucifer, Demons, and more! This one is jam packed!
I warn you. There are major spoilers for some plot points in Sandman Slim in this episode. That said, you won't be disappointed if you start reading after you listen to this episode. There's a complete world of magic and mayhem awaiting you in that series.
Richard was a great guest. He really opened up about his thoughts and process. His attitude and mindset are real. He's the kind of guy you could meet at a bar doing shots of whiskey and talking about the nuances of living in Hell. My kind of people.
Richard's Bio:
Richard Kadrey is the New York Times bestselling author of the Sandman Slim supernatural noir series. Sandman Slim was included in Amazon’s “100 Science Fiction & Fantasy Books to Read in a Lifetime,” and is in production as a feature film. Some of Kadrey’s other books include The Grand Dark, The Everything Box, Hollywood Dead, and Butcher Bird. In comics, he’s written for Heavy Metal, Lucifer, and Hellblazer.
